Sell the Books

Face it, you have to sell more than just yearbooks. Check out some ideas for selling your yearbooks, recruiting a staff, and making the most of ad sales. Now more than ever, the effective use of social media will help you crowd source content, sell books and ads, and recruit a staff for the next year.

Resources for Marketing & Sales

Consider that your yearbook sales year is divided into four parts:

  • Back to School Sales – This happens in August and September.
    • Announce your Back to School Yearbook sale that starts in early August with a special price through September 30.
    • Include a direct link to the Yearbook Order Center on your school’s website.
    • Ask your principal to include a direct link to the Yearbook Order Center in his Welcome Back email.
    • Ask your PTA to include a direct link to the Yearbook Order Center in their newsletter or email.
    • Provide your front office staff with a PDF that explains where to purchase the yearbook, the pricing and the dates, so that they can answer those questions for your parents.

  • November Yearbook Sales – Your focus on yearbook sales and a final push for personal ads happens in November and into December.
    • Use Send and Sell to focus on your senior class for those who have not purchased a book or an ad.
    • Check which senior parents purchased an ad, but not a yearbook and email them.
    • Share some sneak peeks on social media.
    • Create a yearbook commercial of some of the images to remind students that you are covering the year for them.
  • March Madness Sales – Of course it is a March yearbook sales push, which you and your staff focus on as you are completing your yearbook and before spring break.
    • Use send and sell to find students who are included in the book several times, but have not yet purchased a yearbook.
    • Share some sneak peeks on social media.
    • Share with the students how many seniors have not purchased a yearbook and few books there are left for purchase
    • Tips on Selling Out
  • Distribution Sales – hopefully you will have just a few left, but there are schools where this is where students buy the book because they can see it.
    • Make a BIG DEAL about the arrival of your yearbook!
    • Post photos of the book and some spreads on social media.
    • Make sure everyone knows where to pick up their book
    • If you have any left to sell, let them know how to purchase them
